The intervention within the framework of the development of the diffuse experiential
museum aims at the redevelopment and enhancement of two historical buildings of great value, located in the Municipality of Paganico Sabino and strategically positioned along the route connecting the villages of Collalto Sabino, Paganico Sabino and Castel di Tora, passing through the picturesque village of Ascrea. This initiative is intended to enrich the area’s cultural and tourist offer, fostering the social and cultural regeneration of the Turano Valley and increasing the area’s attractiveness.
The project involved redeveloping two extraordinary historic buildings in the village: the Church of the Annunziata (12th century) and the Mola Comunale (1860), to create new spaces for culture, education and tourist reception.
Valuable architectural elements, including the historic obolus window and the chestnut tithe, were recovered inside the Church of the Annunziata. Floors, plaster, and paint were renewed, a new wooden door inspired by the Church of St Nicholas of Bari was installed, and external works were carried out for water drainage and urban decoration. The structure now has a sound and microphone system under municipal management for conferences, concerts and cultural activities.
In the Mola Comunale, work was carried out to clean, consolidate and paint the rooms, recovering the original doors. On the ground floor, the museum space was upgraded, while on the first floor, used as accommodation, the bathroom was restored and the rooms refinished. The intervention is in synergy with previous work to restore the mill’s hydraulic system, which can already be visited as part of guided tours.
The project has thus restored functionality and value to two symbolic places in the village of Paganico Sabino, now fully included in the diffuse museum itinerary and suitable for hosting exhibitions, events, experiential workshops and local celebrations. A co-planning procedure is underway to entrust the management to a third sector organisation.
